Each Spring semester, our International Ministry Team at the UT Tyler BSM hosts a potluck for international students. This year’s event was a huge success! On Saturday, February 9th, International students and BSM leadership students converged at the BSM to share food, games, and build friendships. Many of these international students have only been in the U.S. for a few months and are looking for meaningful friendships. We are continually amazed at how open they are to talking about spiritual matters and hearing about the gospel. After playing a series of fun games, dinner began. Students were assigned a table so they would meet new people and not just stick to those they already know.
As the evening continued, many new friends were made. We met one new friend from Tibet. He was extremely open to new friends and talking about Christ. He is Buddhist but attended a Christian school in India and knew a few stories from the Bible. When asked about his favorite story, he said: “The one that got to me the most was the story where the little boy gave Jesus his bread and fish. Then Jesus took it and fed thousands with it. It’s an amazing story!” We continued to talk to him about scripture and who Jesus is. A couple of weeks later, he came with his Ethiopian roommate to our regular International Dinner at the BSM on a Wednesday night. We got to continue our conversation with him at the BSM International Dinner and also meet his roommate. He has not made a decision for Christ yet, but remains open to learning. Pray for our international friends to continue to be open to talking about Jesus. Pray that they will come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
